Donkey with a Hock Wound

With thanks to Jean & Bob Harrison of The Asswin Project's Mobile Clinic in India

Jean & Bob came across this donkey with a severe hock wound on a visit to one of the many construction sites in the Haryana District in India.

There were differing opinions as to how the injury occurred. The owner said that either a dog or another donkey had bitten the hock. But, Jean & Bob suspected that the hind legs may have become cow-hocked from an early age due to the poor donkey being made to carry much too heavy loads. Because of this, the hocks had been constantly rubbing together which basically caused the injury.

It would have been beneficial to hospitalise the donkey, but the owner was reluctant to agree to that. Jean & Bob visited the site daily to attend to dressings which they applied to the hock but after each day's work they found that their dressings had been torn and the wound exposed and dirty.

Bob then discovered Equaide, via the Internet, and treatment began in September 2007.
